Todd Rinehart, LICSW, APHSW-C is the Social Work and Spiritual Care Director, with the MGH Division of Palliative Care and Geriatric Medicine and certified as an Advanced Palliative and Hospice Social Worker. His interest in end of life care began as a volunteer with the Gay Men’s Health Crisis in NYC during the height of the AIDS epidemic. That experience changed the direction of his life and led him to earning his Master of Social Work degree at New York University. Since graduating in 2000 he has spent his social work career working in HIV/AIDS, hospice and palliative care.
Todd has been a member of the Harvard Medical School Center for Palliative Care faculty since 2008. He also serves on the faculty of the Harvard Palliative Care Fellowship Program. Todd is one of the course planners for Practical Aspects of Palliative Care (PAPC) and serves on the steering committee for the Harvard Medical School Center for Palliative Care. Todd is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, Social Work Hospice and Palliative Care Network and the Association for Death Education and Counseling.
For the past decade, Todd has volunteered as a counselor for Comfort Zone Camp, a bereavement camp for children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or guardian. Todd is an avid theatre goer and dabbles in community theatre.
