Psychosocial Oncology Grand Rounds

Course directors

Inspired by clinical questions arising during psychosocial oncology rounds at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston Children's Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and satellite institutions, this seminar tackles far-reaching topics--from distress screening and motivational interviewing, to psychopharmacology and the Right to Die movement--that impact care in psychosocial oncology. The seminar emphasizes cutting-edge research findings, as well as expert-panel determined best practices.

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Integrate up-to-date, evidence-based knowledge into their clinical practice
  • Improve their knowledge base, interview skills, and distress tolerance in areas of unmet need such as personality disordered medically ill patients, psychotherapy at the end of life, and multidisciplinary treatment team dynamics
  • Enhance the quality of care delivered to patients
  • Educate colleagues in non-mental health disciplines regarding psychiatric assessment and treatment techniques

Schedule and location

The Psychosocial Oncology Grand Rounds is generally held on the last Friday of each month (September-June), from 12:00-1:00 at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Accreditation

The Harvard Medical School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians and designates each session for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Creditâ„¢.
